Advocacy, or the art of the ask, is part of life and the ability to advocate on your own behalf or to support someone or something that you care about is growing increasingly important. In this training, Jeanne Marie will share a brief history of the 2017 New Jersey Library Construction Bond Act which created a $250 million economic stimulus for the state of New Jersey, and funded seventy library projects throughout the state. Lessons and advocacy tips will be shared, and of course questions and participation are welcome!

Jeanne Marie Ryan has more than 20 years of experience working in public libraries throughout New Jersey. She also worked briefly for the New Jersey Department of State as the Executive Director of Early Childhood Literacy. In 2018, she received both the President’s Award from the New Jersey Library Association and recognition as a Library Journal Mover & Shaker for her work as the chief architect of the 2017 New Jersey Library Construction Bond Act.
